A Federal Work Study Agenda to Better Serve Low-income Students
For the past several months, Young Invincibles has been working to develop recommendations to reform the existing Federal Work Study program. Today, they unveiled a new proposal, “A Federal Work Study Agenda to Better Serve Low-Income Students,” which delivers work-study aid to students who need it most. By changing the decades-old formula, which currently rewards institutions that have been participating in the program the longest, this program would reward institutions who do the best job of serving low-income students. It also reforms the work-study formula to encourage institutions to provide valuable work experiences to students while they are in school. Young Invincibles’ paper is part of the Reimagining Aid Design and Delivery project sponsored by the Gates Foundation.
Here is a summary of Young Invincibles’ recommendations.
